Lessons learnt Part 1: Long haul flights

Now its more or less 1 month since we left Norway. We have been travelling with an now 8 and half month old baby girl. So far we have tried and tested a few things, and are learning from our mistakes everyday. Here are some of the things we have learnt Part 1.

Long haul flights:

  • Bassinet: When travelling with an infant always request a bassinet when you book the tickets. Most airlines provide these free of charge (not TAM, they are my least favourite airline and if I could I would avoid flying with them) The bassinet goes on the wall in front and therefor you get the extra leg room seats. Our littlebabyexplorer had plenty of space down on the floor to play and I could sit there with her. During long flights its great to have different "environments" so that the baby is occupied.
  • Make sure to bring enough food, diapers, change and toys. When you think you have enough bring a little more. You never know when planes are delayed or cancelled, or if the little one gets sick (like littlebabyexplorer on a 9 hour flight from London to Miami,  and she threw up on her self several times, I was happy I had plenty of spare clothes both for her and me)
  • Always bring an extra blanket, I preferred wool so that I know it breaths. Some air crafts are freezing cold.
  • Baby Bjørn: we don't go ANYWHERE without The Bjørn as we now call it. Our girl loves to be carried around in it. On long haul flights its a perfect time user, walking up and down the isles when she is impatient. She loved the attention from other passengers, and to be honest it is a great way to chit chat with people and time flies by.
