Leasons learnt part 2 - In a restaurant

Littlebabyexplorer is now 10 months and we have travelled for over 3 months, and I am happy to say that we are more experienced and here are some more lessons learnt:

Eating in restaurants:
When travelling for a long time like we are, you eat an insane amount of meals in restaurants. In fact sometimes its up to 3 times pr day. Those of you who have a baby will probably wonder how its possible to keep the baby still for that long. Well most of the times its not! So you have to adjust to the surroundings, and adjust your expectations. Few tips we have learnt so far:
  • Always keep an "baby seat" with you, the travel type one that you can put on a normal chair. Not all restaurants have baby seat, and if they do many of them are lacking safety straps.
  • Sometimes waiting for the food can take ages, so keeping the baby busy until the food arrives is a good idea, walk around, look at things, let her play on the floor chair etc. Most of the countries we have been to they are crazy about babies, and will gladly talk to the baby and play with it for a few minutes. When the food arrives littlebabyexplorer is happy to sit still eating for a bit.
  • Time the meals, so the baby is just the right amount of hungry before entering the restaurant. To hungry = unhappy baby, and always keep fruit squeeze with you they are life savers in restaurant as my littlebabyexplorer loves playing with them and it can keep her quiet for a while.
  • Where to choose the table in the restaurant? You would think that hiding away in a far corner where you wont disturb anyone is the best thing, well I have learnt the opposite with my littlebabyexplorer. She loves to people watch and "talk" to others so we always choose a table where people have to pass by.
  • Lunch vs. dinner. We have found its easier to have a big long lunch than a long dinner if babyexplorer is awake....People are normally more easy going at lunch time, and the baby is not tired from a long day.
